Meteor Mech is a Ranged-class mech in Into the Breach.

Team[ | ]

The mech is available as part of the Flame Behemoths squad.

Strategy[ | ]

Since the Meteor Mech's Vulcan Artillery does not deal direct damage, it's possible right from the start of the timeline to target buildings, and push melee Vek away from them without damaging them; only lighting the building on fire does not do damage to it. Note that this becomes impossible if the +2 Damage upgrade is powered with 3 Reactor Cores; thus, it is an upgrade that must be carefully considered depending on the mission and other Mechs in the squad, weighing the usefulness of additional direct damage versus the utility of protecting buildings.

In general, the upgrades for Vulcan Artillery are not as pressing to get, especially in the Flame Behemoths where the other two Mechs want upgrades sooner. The Backburn upgrade, while cheap at one reactor core, is also situational; for example, it can grant flexibility to deal with Leapers that jump at the back line and web the Meteor Mech by setting them on fire, or by moving it forward to remove Smoke from a webbed ally while shooting another target on the opposite side (especially useful against the Mosquito Leader). Backburn can also be a useful upgrade to set up boosts, if paired with the Napalm Mech in a Custom Squad.

If both Backburn and +2 Damage are powered, note that the tile behind the Meteor Mech will also deal 2 damage, before burn damage is taken into account. While this is beneficial for taking out an enemy and pushing other targets away with the ranged projectile, be careful when shooting adjacent to buildings and allies, as the direct damage from the Backburn tile will damage them.
